Valve has recently implemented significant updates to the rules and guidelines governing user behavior on Steam.
These changes provide users with more specific instructions on what is permissible and what is not while utilizing the platform.
Although Valve’s announcement did not explicitly detail the alterations, archived versions of the rules shed light on the revisions.
Valve Enhances Steam’s Community Rules and Content Guidelines
The previous rules were relatively general, whereas the updated guidelines now provide explicit expectations. Users are urged to maintain respect, engage constructively, avoid off-topic content, refrain from discussing unlawful activities, and steer clear of commercial content.
The new rules address various aspects of the Steam community, including user reviews, uploaded images, and community groups.
These are the examples of disrespectful contents according to Valve’s new rules:
- Insults or harassment
- Threats or encouragement of harm
- Trolling or baiting arguments
- Discrimination
- Bypassing word or content filters
- Public accusations towards others
An FAQ section has been added to clarify the enforcement of the rules. Furthermore, the online conduct rules have been significantly expanded to cover unlawful activities, harassment, cheating, and intellectual property violations.
One notable change pertains to adult content. While explicit content remains prohibited, game-related content within its respective game hub is now exempt, acknowledging the presence of adult-themed games on Steam.
